European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) relocated to Lisbon

On 14th September, 450 guests attended the inauguration of EMSA in Lisbon. Green Award attended this inauguration as well.

The event took place in the presence of José Manuel Barosso, President of the European Commission, Portuguese Prime Minister José Sócrates Carvalho Pinto de Sousa , Efthimios Mitropoulos, Secretary General of the IMO, Jacques Barrot, European Commission vice-president and Commissioner for Transport.

EMSA, created in the aftermath of the Erika disaster, aims to contribute to the enhancement of the overall maritime safety system in the Community. Its goals are, through its tasks, to reduce the risk of maritime accidents, marine pollution from ships and the loss of human lives at sea.
