Joint Maritime CSR seminar in Doha, Qatar

A seminar to discuss a Joint Maritime CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) with the maritime industry stakeholders was held in Qatar in a continued effort of Green Award’s to assist in creating an industry-wide CSR.

On the 25th November 2013, at the office location of Nakilat - a ship owner of 24 Green Award certified ships - Nakilat and Green Award co-hosted a seminar to share opinions on the overall maritime CSR in Qatar and possible collaborations related there to.

Five presentations were delivered by 4 companies: Wilhelmsen Ship Service Doha, Dutch Pilots' Association on behalf of ISPO, ClassNK and Green Award. Each organisation presented how they contribute to the maritime CSR with their respective products or services they provide. Thereafter, a plenary discussion was held on how each participating organisation could collaborate as a group as a whole or bilaterally.

The State of Qatar as the world’s prime exporter of LNG has already took actions in the field of CSR. Qatar Petroleum, through its subsidiary Qatargas Operating Company, contributed in the startup of the Green Award certification programme for LNG carriers. Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) enrolled their ships into the programme for voluntary audit, certification and recognition.

In 2014, Green Award would like to further discuss possibilities of collaboration with the State of Qatar to bring their maritime CSR initiative to the global maritime sector.
